Eating Well to Lose Weight: 3 Common Reasons Why You Feel Sleepy After Eating

I set my alarm clock the night before and put it on top of my cupboard, far enough away that I have to get out of bed to shut it off. I mention about this quick tips to rise early in the morning and go straight into morning exercise in my previous post. But things do not turn out as I planned. I should have just get up and have a colder shower rather than rolling over and pressing the snooze button. I decided then to get into my exercise gear as soon as my kids go to their regular day time nap. But I find myself fall asleep with the kids when I get them to take a day nap after lunch.

Simple carbohydrates such as candy, milk product, processed foods and fatty foods, soft drinks and syrups gives a boost to energy but it tend to break down quickly into blood sugar too, causing your energy levels to drop fast. Other common cause for feeling tired after eating is hidden food allergies. People who have food allergies normally experience excessive bloating and gas, constipation or diarrhea, in addition to fatigue.

Solution: Avoid processed foods. They may taste great on the spot but filled you with calorie that lack of nutrients. To feel more awake choose low-carb and high-protein food for lunch instead of sugar and flour like cakes, muffins and pasta meals, as their high flour and sugar content will bring on drowsiness. If you are eating properly but still feel tired and sleepy after eating, you may need to consult your doctor to receive a special screening to determine the cause of your fatigue after eating.

4. Overeating
When you eat, your brain diverts energy towards digestion, sending a bunch of red blood cells over to help break down the food and carry the nutrients all over your body. More energy used for digesting food means less energy can be used for running around.
